Millions of UK citizens were more shocked with the West Indies turn around in the second test versus England at Headingley than they were over Labour’s Brexit announcement that the party was committing itself to continued UK membership of the EU single market and customs union during a transition period following the Brexit departure date of 2019.
It is easy to understand why the Corbyn-led group would make such a horrific Policy shift; they simply don’t respect the democratic process nor do they have a full sense of patriotism towards the United Kingdom. When an individual can fail to denounce the IRA who brought significant turmoil to the Union, or be seen in the company of other groups of individuals with terrorist links, as well as make a major blunder by leading students to believe his party would clear student debts would you then expect him to whip his party into supporting the full ramifications of Brexit? I think not mate.
Labour and remoaners have to understand that when 17.4 million voters voted on June 23rd 2016 in the Brexit Referendum not only did they surpass the 16.1 million individuals who voted to remain, but they voted to leave every aspect of the European Union. In this voting process there was no distinction between Labour and Conservatives, as you had strong Labour Constituencies like Stoke-on-Trent North voting nearly 70 percent to leave. Therefore it’s safe to say the Tories aren’t pushing a Hard Brexit because they want to, but rather because the fact is the UK, via a democratic process, voted Brexit- coupled with that fact that there is no such thing as soft Brexit. Brexit means Britain’s full exit from the European Union.
So the question must be asked, “Is Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party who have ambitions to govern the United Kingdom willing to disregard the 17 million voters who voted leave as well as the democratic process?” One would guess that the answer is a forgone conclusion given Labour’s announcement, but what is even more perturbing is the fact that Corbyn’s disregard for democracy continues. One can surely say that the day Corbyn enters Number 10 Downing Street as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom it will be the end of the greatest Union together with British values as we know it . If a leader is willing and unbothered with disregarding the voices of 17 million people who democratically won a say in the direction their nation takes, what will stop him from destroying the social fabric that the United Kingdom is built upon? But then again this is a man who has vilified and congratulated the Venezuelan model which today has caused bloodshed and hurt to many within that country so don’t be surprised by any of his moves.
As if disregard for democracy wasn’t bad enough, there is nothing as shameful as defying patriotism. When the UK went to the polls, those who selected leave did so because they were true patriots. They realized that the United Kingdom has been the only European nation to actually lead true world development from the 17th Century onwards. Those who voted leave saw a nation who had developed the Commonwealth and fostered growth throughout the world and that was being kept back by a bunch of greedy Brussels Politicians. But what they saw most of all was Britain being suffocated with the inability to create her own laws, protect her borders as well as the inability to shine on the world stage. How could a nation as significant as Britain be told who and when to trade with? While the Dutch tried to trade salt in the Caribbean and the French barely had any trading routes in the 18th Century, the British were championing many routes with a host of goods; but ironically in the 21st century she was now being subjected to “house arrest” with regards to trade. Those who voted leave voted to fully exit the single market and customs union because they wanted the UK to decide where and with who the UK trades- yet Labour now tells the nation they want Brussels to have a say in what is supposed to be a UK only affair.
This policy by Labour certainly isn’t one drawn in the best interest of the United Kingdom, rather it’s one created for political gain as is the modus operandi with most of Corbyn’s policies. There is no need to remain within the Single market or Customs union under the term “Jobs and economy first” because unlike what the remoaners have said prior to the referendum, the sky has not fallen. As a matter of fact there has been economic growth within the past year, unemployment is at it’s lowest since 1975, while firms such as Nissan who operates in Sunderland have agreed to increase production. Furthermore the US and other countries are ready to commit to a number of trade deals. Labour’s utterances are therefore based on self gain as opposed to what is best for the UK.
Unfortunately, the 16.1 million individuals who voted to stay have a younger demographic and have rights even though they are in a minority. I am ambivalent about Brexit; the ECB, The Fed and BOE have pursued 0% interest rates and will continue to do so as regardless as they have decided that the over leveraged should be supported. This has nothing to do with Brexit, there has never been a better time to export to Europe than today as our £ is so low. Cut fuel duties, lower indirect taxes and increase interest rates.
